Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay
An Independent Waldorf High School For Grades 9-12

Physical Education/Movement Grades 9 - 12

Coach Griffin
Physical fitness builds self-confidence and self-esteem, laying the foundation for a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.  In these courses, we provide each grade a range of athletic opportunities to promote fitness and skill-building.   We work on developing skills in basketball, soccer, volleyball, puff polo, and a variety of other activities.  Our focus is on developing the fundamentals and improving fitness and hand-eye coordination.

Health and Wellness Grades 9 - 12

Mr. Nicholl
The Health and Wellness program works toward development socially, emotionally, physically, and mentally. In Physical Education we work to build self-confidence and self-esteem through skill building and a variety of games. The focus is on involvement, participation, and realizing one's own abilities. Health class gives students a format to discuss and learn about different issues in their lives and the world around them. We cover personal health issues as well as developing peer interactions and personal growth and development.

The health class is a year-long course meeting once a month for each grade.  The class focuses on issues concerning physical, social, emotional and mental health.  Topics such as physical wellness, personal development, peer relationships, communication and stress relief are covered.

Sports and Physical Education

Physical fitness builds self-confidence and self-esteem, laying the foundation for social and recreational skills that serve students well for the rest of their lives. To support healthy physical and emotional growth, we offer an array of sports and physical education for our students.

Our competitive sports program is enthusiastically supported by the student body. In the fall, we offer a soccer program for the girls and boys. The girls play a full schedule of games with other private schools in the Girls Independent League. The boys play in the Massachusetts Bay Independent League. In the winter, our girls' and boys' basketball teams also play in competitive independent leagues. In the spring, we offer Ultimate-Frisbee. Since beginning league play in 1999, our teams have won several championship banners: the boys' basketball team won the MBIL championship in 2000, and the boys' soccer team won the MBIL championship four times.

The strengths of Waldorf High School are many. One is the acceptance of all students and the welcoming, nonjudgmental atmosphere. Another is capturing the interest of students; it is real experiential learning.
